Fatshimetrie, June 26, 2024 – 64 years ago, the Democratic Republic of Congo celebrated its independence in a climate of joy which quickly gave way to chaos. The army mutinied and secessions took place, plunging the country into a period of political uncertainty and violence.
The first months of independence were marked by improvisation and the struggle for control of the country by foreign powers. The Congo, rich in natural resources, was a coveted prey in the Cold War between East and West.
The years following independence were marked by secessions, rebellions, civil wars and unimaginable violence. The Congolese people have had no respite, taken hostage by external forces seeking to divide the country in order to better control it.
Mobutu’s Zaire briefly brought a period of stability, but dictatorial excesses plunged the country into darkness. Successive regimes have failed to put an end to armed conflicts, fueled by foreign interests and the struggle for control of the country’s mineral resources.
President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo is in turn facing major challenges, particularly from armed groups in the east of the country supported by neighboring countries. Despite these obstacles, the Congolese people remain united in their quest to defend national unity, territorial integrity and hard-won independence.
The Congo faces a crucial destiny, facing foreign aggression and the struggle for sovereignty. Let us be inspired by the courage and determination of our founding fathers, to build a strong, united and prosperous Congo, resisting the forces that seek to divide and dominate.
Together, we can overcome the challenges that stand in our way, and build a better future for future generations. The Congo has immense potential, and it is by remaining united and united that we can fully realize it.
In this quest towards a brighter future, let us always remember the importance of unity, solidarity and mutual respect. It is by remaining faithful to these values that we will be able to transcend the divisions of the past and build a common, prosperous and peaceful future for all Congolese.
