The governors’ trip to Pakistan to explore MCRP and NEDC projects in crisis management and urban development opens new perspectives on good practices to be implemented in these crucial areas. This initiative, coordinated by the Program Management and Coordination Program (PMC) of the North East Recovery and Stability Program (NERSP) in partnership with the Multi-Sector Development Fund (MCRP) of the World Bank, is of significant importance major in a context where resilience in the face of crises and the development of urban areas constitute key issues.
Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs of Buni, stressed that this trip will allow governors to better understand international best practices in crisis management, disaster resilience and urban development. The objective of this visit is multiple: understand best practices and solutions relevant to the mandates of MCRP AF and NEDC/BAY, strengthen institutional capacities in planning, recovery and stabilization, improve the implementation of infrastructure , services and social cohesion, optimize planning for post-NEDC phases and strengthen the capacities of ministries and organizations to design and implement sustainable projects.
During their journey, the governors have already visited entities such as the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Corporation (PMDFC, LGCD) and the Punjab Planning and Development Board (PnD Board). Several other visits are planned, including to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, the PMDFC Municipal Services projects, the Islamabad Disaster Risk Management Portfolio and the Khyber Rural and Institutional Investment Support Project .
Meetings with the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan, United Nations agencies and other entities will provide an opportunity to exchange good practices, lessons learned and areas for improvement. Governor Buni will also have the opportunity to engage in bilateral discussions with officials from donor organizations and the private sector to mobilize resources to support ongoing initiatives.
This journey to Pakistan therefore offers a unique opportunity to deepen knowledge and establish essential partnerships to strengthen the resilience of communities in the face of crises and promote sustainable urban development. It demonstrates the desire of governors to draw inspiration from international best practices and enrich their strategies for planning and implementing projects with a positive impact on populations.
