The peaceful entity of the Himbi district in Goma, province of North Kivu, is shaken by a wave of extortion which disrupts the peace of the inhabitants. The head of this jurisdiction, Mr. Baenda Kasole, expressed his indignation at this increase in crime, pointing the finger at individuals in uniform who operate clandestinely, mainly along Alindi Avenue.
According to testimonies collected, these uniformed thugs target peaceful citizens to steal money, telephones and other valuable goods, thus sowing terror and insecurity in this once quiet neighborhood.
The major concern lies in the fact that these reprehensible acts are perpetrated by individuals who are supposed to ensure the protection of populations. Mr. Baenda Kasole launched an urgent appeal to the military authorities to identify those responsible for these reprehensible acts and restore peace and serenity in the Himbi district.
In a city where security is a major issue, the resurgence of extortion raises questions about the effectiveness of the security measures in place. Himbi, known for being a peaceful residential area, is now faced with a climate of insecurity which threatens the daily lives of its residents.
Faced with this situation, it is imperative that citizens remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the competent authorities. Collaboration between the population and the police is essential to put an end to these criminal actions and protect the tranquility of the inhabitants of Himbi.
In conclusion, it is urgent that concrete measures be taken to guarantee the safety of citizens and restore confidence within the community. The Himbi district must not give in to terror, but rather join forces to defend its rights and preserve the peace for which it is famous. ACP/ODM
