The recent trip of the governors to Pakistan as part of a study on crisis management and urban development has generated real interest and opened new perspectives on international practices in post-crisis reconstruction.
This mission, organized by the World Bank’s Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), allowed the governors to delve into the world of good practices for crisis management, disaster resilience and urban development. A crucial issue for regions affected by various challenges.
The main objective of this visit was to draw inspiration from best practices and solutions related to the mandates of the MCRP and the BAY/NEDC, strengthen institutional capacities for planning, recovery and stabilization, improve the implementation of infrastructure, services and social cohesion, but also to effectively prepare for the post-NEDC phases, and finally, to increase the capacities of organizations to design and implement sustainable projects.
During this mission, the team had the opportunity to visit key entities such as the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Corporation (PMDFC, LGCD) and the Punjab Planning and Development Board (PnD Board). The governors were also expected to visit the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, PMDFC Municipal Services Projects, the Islamabad Disaster Risk Management Portfolio and the Khyber Rural Investment and Institutional Support Project.
Other important meetings were also scheduled within the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan, as well as with United Nations agencies, among others.
This trip allowed the governors to meet experts and field actors, exchange experiences and acquire new knowledge and skills in crisis management and urban development. An experience rich in lessons which will undoubtedly contribute to nourishing the reflection on the best practices to be implemented in their respective regions.
