At a training session for media executives in Lagos, Abraham Oshadami, the executive commissioner of technical services of the NCC, allayed fears by explaining that radiation emitted by telecommunication antennas did not pose a risk to the health. According to him, the height of the antenna masts makes it possible to maintain a sufficient distance between radiation and individuals, thus minimizing any potential impact on health.
He also stressed that the NCC maintains strict regulations regarding the installation of telecommunication antennas in residential areas. Before installing an antenna, telecommunications companies must obtain approval from the NCC, which conducts inspections to ensure installations meet safety and compliance standards.
NCC regulations stipulate in particular that antennas must be placed a minimum distance of five meters from the nearest property, excluding the fence. This measure aims more to guarantee the physical safety of residents than to prevent health risks linked to radiation.
