Power Cuts in Egypt: Amr Adib’s Anger and Call for Action

In the heart of Egypt, a decision which shook many homes and aroused the indignation of the population. Indeed, Amr Adib, famous host of the program “al-Hekaya”, strongly criticized the announcement of the National Electricity Control Center on the increase in power cuts to three hours. The measure, driven by shortages of fuel and natural gas powering power plants, left many citizens caught off guard, with some even finding themselves stuck in elevators with their loved ones and children.

The lack of prior communication on this decision as well as the exceeding of the cut-off time initially set at two hours raised the ire of Amr Adib. In his show, he strongly questioned the way in which this crisis was managed by the authorities, wondering about the lack of consideration towards the population. “Do our fellow citizens not even deserve an apology? Is this how we treat a patient people? Is the management of the crisis correct on the part of the State?”, he asked. .

The context of extreme heatwave that the country has been experiencing for two days has added additional pressure on citizens already affected by the heat. Amr Adib urged the government to issue an official apology for this sudden and unexpected measure. He stressed the need for effective management of this crisis, calling for sustainable solutions to address the challenges in Egypt’s energy and electricity sector.

Faced with the silence of the authorities, the famous host regretted the lack of transparency and communication. “No member of the government, whether from the Cabinet or the ministries of Electricity and Oil, wishes to express themselves. They send us press releases and hide in their silence,” he lamented.

This situation thus raises essential issues regarding communication, crisis management and the responsibility of the authorities towards their population. Calls for official apologies and better management of energy resources are becoming more and more pressing. It seems urgent that concrete and transparent actions be taken to guarantee dignified living conditions for Egyptian citizens.
