Diving into Ancient Egypt: An Exceptional Exhibition in Shanghai

The city of Shanghai, known for its dynamism and its openness to the world, is preparing to host an exhibition on a scale never seen before. Indeed, a collection of 788 artifacts from seven major Egyptian museums recently arrived in Shanghai, China, arousing the enthusiasm of history and archeology enthusiasts around the world.

This exceptional exhibition, entitled “At the Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt”, will highlight the latest archaeological discoveries from the Saqqara region. Among the centerpieces of this exhibition are an imposing statue of Akhenaten and a coffin from the archaeological site of Saqqara, which will be unveiled for the first time to the public at the Shanghai Museum.

Visitors will have the opportunity to admire statues of iconic pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III and Ramses II, a comprehensive collection of royal mummy sarcophagi, exquisite jewelry, recently discovered painted coffins, animal mummies, as well as as statues from the Saqqara region in Egypt.

The exhibition will kick off with a major ceremony on July 18, before opening its doors to the public on July 19. Scheduled to last approximately 13 months, the exhibition will close on August 17, 2025.
