Challenges and opportunities for education in Kwilu 1 province

The Kwilu 1 educational province recently saw a significant drop in participation in the regular state examination papers compared to the previous year. Indeed, in 2024, only 15,287 candidates took part in the tests, a drop of 7% compared to 2023. This reduction in numbers, explained by the main provincial inspector Jean-Pierre Kasonga, seems to be influenced by several worrying factors.

One of the main elements that hindered the participation of students in exams is the resurgence of the Mobondo phenomenon in the Wamba sector, Bagata territory. This insecurity resulted in the closure of several schools, thus preventing classes and exams from going smoothly for many students. In addition, precarious social conditions also played an important role, notably delaying payment of fees required for registration for the tests.

Inspector Jean-Pierre Kasonga thus underlines the importance of fighting insecurity in the region and raising parents’ awareness of the need to prepare financially for future school costs. The desire to see these problems resolved is clearly expressed, with the aim of encouraging greater student participation in exams and thus ensuring their educational success.

It is essential to understand that education is a fundamental pillar in the development of a society and that everything must be done to guarantee access to quality education for all children, regardless of their environment.
