An innovative vision for higher education in DR Congo

On June 22, 2024, Kinshasa was the location of an exceptional reception in honor of Marie-Thérèse Sombo Ayane Safi, the Minister of Higher and University Education (Esu). This meeting was marked by the presence of influential personalities as well as exchanges marked by humility and vision.

Originally from Isangi, a territory of Tshopo, Marie-Thérèse Sombo Ayane Safi is the first woman professor in the Great East and holds a doctorate in neuropsychiatry. His speech, marked by a desire to serve the Congolese nation in the field of higher education, was well received.

The event was marked by the presence of the rector of the University of Kisangani, Faustin Bongilo, and the budget administrator of the Yangambi Faculty Institute (IFA), Gentumbe Freddy, who came specially from Kisangani to honor the minister . This mobilization in favor of Marie-Thérèse Sombo Ayane Safi was also supported by deputies, honorary ministers, university professors and members of her family from the province of Tshopo.

During the dinner which followed the discussions, symbolic gifts were given to the Minister of Esu as a sign of recognition for her commitment and dedication. Marie-Thérèse Sombo Ayane Safi expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to this event, stressing the importance of strengthening ties and solidarity within the community.

The province of Tshopo, where the minister comes from, has four members in the government, thus demonstrating the importance given to this region in the country’s decision-making bodies. Eve Bazaiba (Environment), Doudou Fwamba (Finance) and Ephraim Akwakwa (Employment) are all personalities who contribute to the balanced representation of different regions within the government.
