In the spotlight since his appointment as general delegate to the Francophonie of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in May 2023, Ma-Umba Mabiala recently surprised public opinion by announcing his departure from his functions. This decision, although surprising, marks the end of a mandate marked by significant achievements within the French-speaking world.
During his mandate, Ma-Umba Mabiala was able to distinguish himself as a driving force behind innovative projects, such as the revitalization of the Reading and Cultural Animation Centers (CLAC). These initiatives aim to promote reading and culture among the Congolese, and more particularly young people, by offering them access to books and digital media. The recent installation of a “mirror CLAC” in Bandalungwa in Kinshasa testifies to the success of this innovative approach.
At the same time, Ma-Umba Mabiala worked to ensure that Congolese nationals fully benefit from the projects and programs of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) in areas as varied as education, training, digital technology and development. sustainable. Convinced of the DRC’s potential within the French-speaking world, he initiated actions in favor of greater political involvement of the country and a strengthening of trade with French-speaking nations.
Before taking the reins of the general delegation to La Francophonie, Ma-Umba Mabiala had already left his mark on the field of education as Director of Education and Youth within the OIF. His involvement in the creation of the Francophonie Institute for Education and Training (IFEF) in Dakar was praised for its contribution to teacher training and the promotion of national languages in the Congolese education system.
Beyond her official duties, Ma-Umba Mabiala has also worked on innovative projects such as the Support Program for Educational Innovations and Reforms (PAIRE) and the promotion of girls’ education, in support of the Strategy for Gender Equality adopted at the Francophonie Summit in Yerevan in 2018.
It is therefore with a rich and varied heritage that Ma-Umba Mabiala leaves his position as general delegate to the Francophonie of the DRC. His successor will have the difficult task of continuing and consolidating the initiatives undertaken, while instilling his own vision for the advancement of the Francophonie in the country. Beyond political and diplomatic issues, it is above all the promotion of culture, education and intercultural dialogue which remain at the heart of this essential mission for the influence of the DRC within the Francophonie.
