The Nouvel Élan political party, under the leadership of Adolphe Muzito, scrupulously complies with the requirements of Law No. 07/008 of December 4, 2007 governing the status of the political opposition in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This approach is part of a concern for respect for democratic standards and active participation in the political life of the country.
During a recent interview with Fatshimetrie, Blanchard Mongomba, secretary general of Nouvel Élan, underlined the importance for his political party, which has three deputies in the National Assembly, to participate in discussions aimed at appointing the spokesperson for the opposition for the 2024-2028 legislature.
Mongomba highlighted the need, as a member of the opposition, to fully engage in the process of appointing the spokesperson, in accordance with the law in force. He thus mentioned the work in progress with other opposition political parties, notably Ensemble de Moïse Katumbi and LGD, with a view to developing internal regulations to govern this election.
Current discussions concern amendments and adjustments to the initial project presented by Ensemble, in order to harmonize the positions of the different political groups. Blanchard Mongomba affirmed that the Nouvel Élan was in the finalization phase of the discussions and that the internal regulations of the opposition would be ready next week, thus allowing the choice of the spokesperson as soon as possible.
This approach takes place in a political context marked by the importance of the opposition in the Congolese democratic system. Indeed, the 2006 constitution recognizes the crucial role of the opposition and provides for the appointment of a spokesperson within thirty days following the inauguration of the government. With the inauguration of the Suminwa government last June, time is running out for the opposition to be able to structure itself and fully play its role in the Congolese political landscape.
Félix Tshisekedi, in his inauguration speech, promised to support the opposition in the exercise of its democratic functions, emphasizing the importance of its presence for the institutional balance of the country. The imminent appointment of the opposition spokesperson thus represents a crucial step in consolidating democracy in the DRC and guaranteeing balanced representation of different political sensitivities within the National Assembly.
