The National Service of the Democratic Republic of Congo has just received a valuable allocation of locomotives, a significant step towards strengthening its operational capabilities. Under the leadership of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, this investment aims to facilitate the transport of materials to production centers, as well as the evacuation of agricultural and manufactured products to consumption areas.
The official handover ceremony of these locomotives was marked by the presence of the highest provincial authorities and officials of the National Service, thus underlining the importance given to this acquisition. These locomotives, accompanied by a varied range of wagons and other equipment, will be driven by young recruits recently trained in South Africa. This initiative will not only boost the logistical operations of the National Service, but also offer training and employment opportunities to Congolese youth.
The National Service Commander is committed to managing these new assets responsibly and promoting railway safety by rehabilitating dilapidated railway tracks. He also expressed his desire to train more young builders to monitor and maintain the railway tracks.
At the same time, the Director General of the National Railway Company of Congo welcomed this initiative and underlined the importance of the partnership between his institution and the National Service. He called for continued support to resolve the challenges facing SNCC, such as the risk of landslides along the railway lines and the aging of its staff.
Beyond this allocation of locomotives, the mid-term assessment of the National Service testifies to its commitment to the socio-economic development of the country. The reconversion of thousands of former urban gang members into “Builders”, the multiplication of agricultural and manufactured production, as well as the construction of educational infrastructures demonstrate the positive impact of this institution on Congolese society.
In a context where education and food security are national priorities, the National Service asserts itself as a key player in contributing to the construction of a better future for Congolese youth. With ambitious projects such as the installation of a printing press for the manufacture of school supplies and a tailoring workshop, it is fully in line with President Tshisekedi’s development vision.
Finally, this provision of locomotives constitutes an essential step in the transformation of the National Service into a pillar of progress and economic autonomy of the DRC.. By investing in the training of young people, the modernization of infrastructure and the diversification of activities, this institution actively contributes to the construction of a more dynamic and prosperous Congolese society.
