The exhibition “Naomi in Fashion”: a dive into the timeless world of the fashion icon supermodel

Fascination, elegance and revolution characterize Naomi Campbell, the eternal icon of fashion, who shines brightly through a unique solo exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Embodying a career spanning more than 40 years at the top, the British supermodel reveals a captivating universe, punctuated by sublime creations and legendary collaborations.

As the museum opens its doors to celebrate Campbell’s fashion heritage, it’s impossible not to be captivated by the diversity of the pieces on display. Iconic outfits, lent by the supermodel herself, stand as a tribute to her exceptional career. Among the key pieces, a sumptuous ensemble by Yves Saint Laurent, enhanced with bird of paradise feathers, and blue “mock croc” shoes by Vivienne Westwood, on which Campbell memorably fell during a fashion show in 1993.

The exhibition highlights the special relationships between Naomi Campbell and big names in fashion such as Westwood, Gianni Versace and Alexander McQueen. The dresses worn by the supermodel on the catwalks, during photo shoots or special events, testify to an unwavering complicity with these emblematic designers.

The imprint of Azzedine Alaïa, renowned Tunisian fashion designer, is also visible in a dedicated section. Outfits tailor-made for the star, including his famous leopard jumpsuit immortalized by Herb Ritts in 1991, reveal a close bond between the designer and his muse.

Fashion visionary Naomi Campbell stands out for her unwavering support of young emerging talents like Nigeria’s Kenneth Ize and British designer, Torishéju Dumi. Their presence at the exhibition is a testament to the supermodel’s lasting influence on the fashion industry.

From runway glamor to the most unexpected moments, Campbell embodies fashion in all circumstances. Her inimitable style shines through even in the most unexpected moments, such as her community service outing in New York in 2007, wearing a shimmering Dolce and Gabbana dress. Even during the health crisis, the supermodel was able to transform the ordinary into extraordinary, by pairing a Burberry cape with her protective suit, thus demonstrating that elegance has no borders.

The “Naomi in Fashion” exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum is much more than a career retrospective, it is the vivid testimony of a living legend. The supermodel’s behind-the-scenes tour of the exhibition, exploring her personal archives and memorabilia, adds an intimate dimension to this iconic event.
