**Attacks on armed forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a persistent challenge to stability and security**
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a nation regularly shaken by violence and armed conflict, a situation exacerbated by recent attacks against the Congolese armed forces. These acts of violence perpetrated by armed groups such as the M23 and the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) endanger the security and stability of the country, as well as the lives of innocent civilians who are the first victims.
The members of the Security Council strongly condemned these attacks, highlighting their devastating impact on the civilian population and on the peacekeeping efforts led by the UN Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO). The intensification of these attacks, in particular the M23 offensive towards Kanyabayonga, led to a massive displacement of the population and the suspension of humanitarian operations, thus worsening the already worrying humanitarian crisis in the region.
It is imperative that all parties involved in this conflict respect international humanitarian law and ensure safe and unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance for impacted civilians. Diplomatic dialogue must be intensified to achieve de-escalation and a lasting solution to the conflict in the DRC, in order to preserve peace and security in the region.
It is also crucial that MONUSCO and its troop-contributing countries receive enhanced support to continue to protect civilians and ensure access to humanitarian assistance. The threats and pressure exerted by armed groups against the UN Mission are unacceptable and must be firmly condemned.
Finally, it is essential that all relevant parties work together to ensure the safety and security of MONUSCO personnel, in accordance with international standards and United Nations guidelines. Only collective and coordinated action will make it possible to put an end to this spiral of violence and instability which threatens the peace and well-being of the Congolese populations.
