Strengthening police capacities in South Kivu: UNPOL renovates the Jules Moké police school

On June 19, MONUSCO, through its police (UNPOL), celebrated the official handover of the rehabilitated building of the Jules Moké police academy, located in Bukavu, in the province of South Kivu. This ceremony marks a significant step in the support provided by the UN mission to state institutions, in particular to the Congolese national police.

The renovation of this building, costing USD 97,818, aims to improve working conditions within the police academy. In addition to the handover of the rehabilitated building, UNPOL also financed the construction of five offices and the rehabilitation of the school’s medical clinic. These concrete actions contribute to strengthening the capacities of the national police and providing a more suitable environment for the training of future police officers.

Colonel Dr Alain Matombe, provincial doctor of the PNC in South Kivu, expressed his gratitude to MONUSCO for this valuable support. The medical equipment provided, such as a modern operating bed, beds equipped with mattresses, a hematological examination machine, a portable ultrasound machine, as well as cesarean section and laparotomy kits, will ensure quality care. quality to the police and the surrounding population.

The rehabilitation work on this building began in January 2024 and resulted in the transformation of the Jules Moké police school into a modern and functional place. This initiative underlines MONUSCO’s commitment to supporting capacity building of law enforcement in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in order to guarantee the security and well-being of citizens.

In conclusion, this official handover demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in the field of security and law enforcement training.
