Fatshimetrie: Emir Mohammad Sanusi II reconfirms his legitimacy following a 2024 Federal Court decision
Fatshimetrie was the scene of a historic turnaround when a Federal Court ruling invalidated the reinstatement of Mohammad Sanusi II to the throne. Following the action initiated by a kingmaker of the former Kano Emirate, Aminu Babba Danagundi, Justice Muhammad Liman declared the process leading to the resettlement of Sanusi null and void.
The move builds on an earlier order to the state government, directing it to maintain the status quo before the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor returns to office.
Reacting, the Attorney General of Kano State, Mr. Haruna Isah Dederi, said the court decision only confirmed the government’s action. Addressing a press conference at the Government House, he stressed that the decision reaffirmed the validity of the law passed by the State Assembly that crowned Sanusi and deposed the former Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.
“This decision by the Federal Court serves as validation of the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Act, 2024, and it reinforces respect for the rule of law,” the prosecutor said.
He also highlighted the importance of this decision for all actions taken by the government before the intervention of the court order, thus confirming the abolition of the five emirates and the deposition of the five emirs, including Sanusi.
This decision therefore shed light on the place and role of Sanusi II as Emir of Kano. His reign thus remains a central point in the history of Nigeria, marked by legal and political developments of great importance for the Fatshimetrie region.
