Allegations of anarchy plot in Kano State press briefing – Attorney General Dederi: Unveiling Political Turmoil in Nigeria’s Heartland

**Allegations of anarchy plot in Kano State press briefing – Attorney General Dederi**

At the heart of Nigeria’s tumultuous politics is Kano State, where allegations of a plot to sow anarchy hit the headlines at a recent press conference hosted by Prosecutor Dederi. General and State Commissioner of Justice.

The title of Dederi’s communication, soberly entitled “Who is plotting to cause anarchy in Kano?”, reveals the urgency and seriousness of the situation that is driving the corridors of power in this state in north-west Nigeria. In a vehement speech, Dederi protested what he described as schemes hatched by “agents of destruction and rejected politicians” who deliberately seek to plunge the state into unnecessary and avoidable anarchy.

The heaviest accusation is aimed at the State Police, whom he accuses of seeking to undermine the constitutional authority of the governor. Dederi points out that unidentified individuals allegedly issued directives against security chiefs in the state, leading to the unilateral decision of the Commissioner of Police (CP) to ban Eid-el festivities Kabir to Kano, without even consulting the governor.

The denial of the governor’s authority by the CP and its decisions taken without prior consultation raise questions. Who is behind these actions? Who is pushing the Commissioner to overstep the governor’s legitimate security directives?

In the background, this political crisis finds its roots in the dissolution of the Emirates Councils by the governor and the merger of the five Emirates into one. This upheaval notably led to the reinstatement of former Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, dismissed by former Governor Ganduje in 2020.

The governor’s decision to do so was based on the need to correct the injustices suffered by the people of the state. However, a recent court ruling declaring that the rights of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero had been violated has sowed confusion in this already tumultuous political landscape.

The announcement of the intention to appeal this judicial decision reveals the desire to resist any challenge to the state government. Dederi categorically rejects allegations that Bayero was placed under house arrest, arguing that his presence in Nasarawa was decided on his own and that the government was simply fulfilling its duty to protect public safety.

Political tensions transcend the simple case of Bayero to reveal secret maneuvers aimed at destabilizing the authority of the governor and taking control of the state. Dederi calls on all defenders of democracy to prevent any attempt at chaos in Kano, stressing that any act undermining peace is an affront to democracy.

In response to these accusations, the Kano Police Commissioner, Ussain Gumel, defended himself by asserting that he had never disrespected the governor and recalling his commitment to the security and peace of the state. The decision to ban the traditional Sallah Durbar, symbolic of the Eid-el Kabir celebrations, was justified by the need to maintain public tranquility.

Whatever the outcome of these political conflicts, one thing is certain, Kano State is the scene of intense political tensions and power struggles that question the very foundations of democracy in Nigeria.
