Strengthening interparliamentary cooperation within ECOWAS

During the recent official visit of the President of the ECOWAS Parliament and her fourth Vice-President to the office of Senator Barau, an atmosphere of cordiality and collaboration marked the exchanges. The presence of Billay G Tunkara, the new President of the ECOWAS Parliament, alongside staff members of the sub-regional assembly, symbolized the importance of inter-institutional relations in the region.

Senator Barau warmly welcomed the President and her team, expressing his satisfaction with this visit and congratulating her on her new role at the head of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament. Through a statement by his Special Advisor for Media and Communication, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau stressed that he had prepared the ground for the new President during his mandate as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, from April to May this year.

He also demonstrated his team’s commitment to supporting the President in her mission to address the region’s challenges. “Once again, I would like to congratulate you on your election as President of the ECOWAS Parliament. Your experience and your history testify to your great capacity to assume this function. We hope that you will make every effort to lead the Parliament to new heights.
