Handing over the keys: A big step forward for housing in Lagos

The Lagos Housing Commissioner, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, recently announced the official date for the handover ceremony of the first 270 housing owners in the Estate. This long-awaited ceremony will take place on June 6. The press release from the Ministry, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Adeola Salako, highlights the fact that this Estate has been under construction for 21 years.

Akinderu-Fatai stressed that this achievement is part of the state government’s efforts to provide affordable and quality housing to residents of Lagos. Despite the many obstacles encountered, such as vandalism and theft, the project was able to be completed. The strategy focused on delivering units in clusters to speed up the finalization process.

In a context where the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu and the determination of the Ministry of Housing were called upon to realize this essential project despite the challenges, the Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the initial applicants who waited for many years. The completion of this first phase with the handing over of the keys to the first 270 homes constitutes a promising breakthrough for the housing sector in Lagos.

For his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, AbdulHafis Gbolahan, confirmed that all preparatory stages had been completed by May 31, paving the way for the official inauguration of the Estate on June 6. He stressed the importance of collaboration between entrepreneurs, community members and government to ensure the smooth delivery of the key handover ceremony.

Gbolahan also expressed gratitude to the future owners for their patience, understanding and trust shown throughout the years of waiting for the finalization of the housing project. This milestone marks a major turning point in the realization of efforts to provide safe and affordable shelter to the people of Lagos.
