Fatshimetrie, June 1, 2024 – The “Power of Women” initiative launched by Fatshimetrie News Lab aims to breathe new life into public debate in the Democratic Republic of Congo, by promoting increased participation of women leaders in essential discussions on major social and political issues. This ambitious campaign will extend across several key cities in the country, notably Kinshasa, Goma, Lubumbashi, Kisangani, Bukavu and Mbandaka, with the collaboration of renowned partners such as the Réseau des Médias Associatifs et Communautaires du Katanga (REMACK), the Association of Women in the Media (AFEM), or the Association of Associative and Community Media of Ecuador (AMACEQ).
At the heart of this innovative approach is a diversified action program, offering a platform to women leaders through round tables inviting deep and constructive reflection on the country’s current challenges. These “News Forums” will thus highlight female voices and explore innovative solutions to current issues. At the same time, captivating videos will be produced as part of the “Women’s Power” series, addressing key topics such as women’s participation in elections, the reforms needed to strengthen their presence on the political scene, and the obstacles hindering their participation. ascension.
In addition, an ephemeral magazine entitled “Nguvu za wanawake” will offer a privileged space to deal in depth with crucial issues such as reforms of the electoral legal framework, sustainable management of natural resources or the essential role of women in the construction of a lasting peace. This rich and varied content will raise public awareness and catalyze a real movement in favor of inclusion and gender equality.
This campaign, supported by the project “Strengthening Farm Radio in the Democratic Republic of Congo” (3R-DRC) with technical support from Internews and funding from Swedish cooperation, embodies real progress towards a more just, equitable society. and democratic. By promoting the engagement of women in public debates and highlighting their essential contributions, Fatshimetrie News Lab actively contributes to building a country where the diversity of voices and perspectives is fully valued.
