A spectacular raid was carried out recently by NSCDC agents in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Rivers, putting an end to the actions of pipeline vandals operating illegally in the region.
Following an intelligence tip-off, the NSCDC Commander General’s Special Intelligence team intervened and managed to arrest one of the suspects, while others, including her husband, are still at large.
During interrogations, the suspect confessed that the firearms and incriminating evidence found in the hut where she was hiding belonged to her husband, who had been involved in the illegal oil trade for two years.
Items seized at the scene included, among others, two locally manufactured guns, a generator, stainless steel saws, thread sealing tapes, shovels, picks, four different welding machines, drills, valves of wellheads of different sizes, cables, two working smartphones, four non-working phones and an external battery.
The suspect and all seized items were handed over to the NSCDC Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The spokesperson warned against any act of economic sabotage and recalled that the culprits would be severely punished. He urged citizens to refrain from any activities detrimental to the nation and cooperate fully with the authorities.
He also encouraged Nigerians to provide credible and timely information to security agencies in case of doubts or suspicions about illicit activities in their area.
This success of the NSCDC demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the authorities and the population to ensure the security of property and people, as well as the protection of national resources against acts of vandalism.
