“Petit kwilu” robusta coffee exports: an economic opportunity for the DRC

Exports of “Petit kwilu” robusta coffee by the National Office of Agricultural Products of Congo (ONAPAC) mark a significant milestone for the Congolese agricultural sector. This variety of coffee, grown exclusively in the Democratic Republic of Congo, represents a major opportunity for the country on the international scene.

The Director General of ONAPAC, Mimie Numbi, stressed the importance of preserving this emblematic culture. Indeed, “Petit kwilu” coffee is much more than a simple commodity; it embodies the unique identity and know-how of the DRC. By promoting it on international markets, the country opens new economic prospects for its farmers and strengthens its position in the agri-food sector.

The launch of exports from the Mayombe forest is the result of hard work and massive investment in promoting robusta coffee cultivation. The project, funded by the European Union, aims to promote the region’s agricultural potential and support local communities. With more than 1,000 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation and more than 50 villages benefiting from this support, the project acts as an engine of development and transformation for the Lukula region.

Furthermore, the launch of the anti-fraud brigade demonstrates ONAPAC’s commitment to guaranteeing the quality and integrity of exports. By fighting against fraudulent practices, the office ensures the reputation and sustainability of “Petit kwilu” coffee on international markets.

Ultimately, “Petit kwilu” robusta coffee is much more than a marketable commodity. It is a symbol of Congolese agricultural excellence, a treasure to be protected and valued. By promoting this ancestral culture, ONAPAC opens the way to a bright future for Congolese agriculture and strengthens the position of the DRC on the international scene.
