Since the revelation of the Sacred Union ticket for the final office of the National Assembly, a wave of criticism has fallen on this controversial composition. National MP and former minister Steve Mbikaye vehemently expressed his disapproval via his X account, formerly Tweeter, pointing out the lack of transparency and personal interests taking precedence over the common good.
In a series of incisive tweets, Steve Mbikaye highlighted the similarities between the current government and the Mobutu regime. According to him, the Popular Movement of the Revolution (MPR) was intended to serve the people, while the Sacred Union (USN) only seems to serve and satisfy the interests of a few privileged members, to the detriment of the population.
The allocation of positions within the office of the National Assembly aroused the ire of Steve Mbikaye, who denounces a logic of personal enrichment and family favoritism. It highlights the contested appointments and opaque arrangements that have led to the concentration of power in the hands of a few, at the expense of pluralistic and equitable representation.
The tribal and regional composition of the ticket has also been criticized, with South Kivu and greater Equateur seeing their interests protected at the expense of national cohesion. Steve Mbikaye denounces political patronage which favors the interests of a few clans to the detriment of the unity of the country, thus risking further dividing an already fragile society.
In opposition to this control of the presidium of the Sacred Union, discordant voices are being raised within the National Assembly to denounce these undemocratic practices and demand fair and balanced representation. Resistance is being organized in the face of what is described as political imposture and deliberate exclusion of other political and regional sensitivities, endangering the stability and unity of the country.
Ultimately, the call for vigilance and democratic mobilization launched by Steve Mbikaye and other MPs is a poignant reminder of the urgent need to preserve the values of transparency, fairness and pluralism within the Congolese political institutions. The fight for democratic and inclusive representation remains a crucial issue for the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo, inviting everyone to take part in the defense of the fundamental principles of democracy.
