According to recent reports, Mami Chula Beach has been the target of a major road construction work by the Federal Government, resulting in the destruction of several valuable properties, including the famous Ariyo’s Mami Chula Beach. This decision sparked mixed reactions within the local community and the political class.
In a recent interview with Fatshimetrie, the former district head expressed his support for the project while recognizing the inconvenience it causes to some members of the population. Despite the repercussions on his catering business, he stressed the importance of thinking about the well-being of the entire Nigerian population, even if it means sacrifices for a few.
He said: “I understand that a government is committed to improving the lives of all Nigerians. Some of us are impacted, it is undeniable, but these people do not represent more than 0.1 % of the millions who will benefit from the coastal road once completed.”
Furthermore, Ariyo appealed for the solidarity of Nigerians towards President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for the success of this major project. With the government pledging to pay compensation of N2.75 billion to property owners harmed by the demolitions, it is crucial to support the efforts made for the good of the community and the country as a whole.
Meanwhile, David Umahi recently clarified the controversy surrounding the demolition of Landmark Beach, saying that no infrastructure belonging to the resort was affected. He specified that only precarious constructions erected on public property were affected by the demolitions.
In this perspective of urban development and infrastructure development, it is essential to find a balance between individual interests and the collective interest. The construction of new roads and the measures taken to ensure the smooth running of major projects must be carried out with transparency and fairness, in order to guarantee the well-being of the entire population.
