Yoruba Youth Demonstrate Against Lack of Respect for Elders and Government Authorities

Fatshimetrie: Yoruba Youth Express Their Discontent Over Lack of Respect for Elders and Government Authorities

The recent statement by the group’s leader, Otunba Gbenga Ojo, highlights the Yoruba cultural value of respect for elders and government authorities, which they believe has been violated by Wike.

Last December, Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed an agreement with his predecessor to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

President Tinubu and other stakeholders facilitated the eight-point agreement during an important meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The FCT Minister and his supporters have persistently criticized the Governor, particularly through members of the state assembly.

Ojo said members of the group, led by Martin Amaewhule, had repeatedly attempted to disrupt the Fubara government.

They challenged Governor Fubara’s work by rejecting his decisions, changing laws without his approval, and even threatening to impeach him again.

This recent threat by 27 lawmakers to launch impeachment proceedings further highlights the growing tensions between the two factions.

The Oduduwa youths criticized Wike for his frequent public diatribes and dismissed the possibility of reconciliation with Fubara.

They said: “We are not surprised as Wike has consistently made careless remarks that have undermined the authority of the President. He has been very careless and rude.”

However, they acknowledged that Fubara had respected agreements, such as the reinstatement of nine pro-Wike commissioners who resigned during the crisis and the payment of withheld compensation from lawmakers.

The Oduduwa Youth Initiative urged Wike to apologize for disrespecting the presidential office.

Ojo warned that if Wike did not apologize, Yoruba youths would protest nationwide demanding his dismissal as Minister.
