The National Union of Workers (UNTC) of Maniema province recently issued a strong recommendation in favor of the restoration of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Indeed, during Labor Day celebrations in Kindu, UNTC representatives stressed the crucial importance of putting an end to the internal conflicts that continue to destabilize the country.
The provincial interprofessional secretary of the UNTC, Assani Makudja Wakapinga David, expressed the concerns of workers in the face of a permanent climate of war. He highlighted that conflicts have a devastating impact on all institutions, undermining worker morale and discouraging potential investors.
With this in mind, the UNTC called on the President of the Republic and the government to redouble their efforts to establish peace and stability in the country. They also pleaded in favor of an increase in the salaries of state agents and civil servants, even proposing indexation to the dollar rate to guarantee decent purchasing power.
While recognizing the progress made by the government and the Head of State, the UNTC underlined the need for the latter to materialize their commitments in terms of security and improving the living conditions of workers. It is imperative that the government ensures safe and respectful working conditions for workers who are the lifeblood of the national economy.
In conclusion, the UNTC’s call for peace and better working conditions for workers in the DRC is an urgent priority that must not be ignored. It is essential that the authorities take concrete measures to ensure a more stable and prosperous future for all citizens of the country.
