Political crisis at the Provincial Assembly of Ecuador: The underside of Fatshimetrie

**Fatshimetrie: Crisis in the Provincial Assembly of Ecuador**

The political scene in the Provincial Assembly of Ecuador is in turmoil. A deep crisis shakes the institution, highlighting internal dissensions regarding the election of the final office. At the heart of this tumultuous saga, a group of 10 provincial deputies, who are described as the majority, recently expressed their disavowal of the current provisional office. The reason for this disavowal? The refusal, according to the dissidents, to organize the electoral process in a serene and peaceful climate.

Despite attempts at mediation and conciliation, discussions have so far failed to find common ground. A petition of disavowal was officially signed after an aborted meeting on May 1, 2024. The 10 protesting deputies, questioning the legitimacy of the current office, sent an appeal to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, to request the establishment of a new age office responsible for organizing elections in a conducive environment.

In a poignant statement, the spokesperson for the dissident MPs, Delsi Mata, highlighted the multiple obstacles encountered in reconciliation efforts. He highlighted the intransigence of the provisional office, accused of compromising the holding of the planned elections, in particular those of senators, governors and vice-governors scheduled for May 7, 2024.

From the current age office, the response was not long in coming. Its dean, Willy Bokonga, defended the legitimacy and legality of their mandate. The members of the age office claim to have respected established procedures, including official correspondence from the Ministry of the Interior dated March 28, 2024. They conducted the election and installation of the final office on April 2, with the participation of a majority of provincial deputies.

Faced with these contradictory episodes, the Provincial Assembly of Ecuador remains divided on the path to follow. While the election of senators, governors and vice-governors is postponed until May 7, tensions persist and threaten to compromise the integrity of the democratic process.

In this context of crisis and uncertainty, it appears crucial for the various actors to place the general interest and political stability above partisan interests. The future of the Provincial Assembly of Ecuador and the province itself will depend on the ability of elected officials to overcome their differences and work together for the common good.
