**News on national identification in the DRC: a new step towards modernity**

Since the launch of the process of issuing the national identity card in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the wait has been long for citizens. However, a glimmer of hope is on the horizon with the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Interior, Peter Kazadi, to the first models of containers used to identify the population.

After months of preparation, all the materials for the 24 municipalities of Kinshasa are now available. This new step suggests the possibility for each Congolese to finally obtain their identity card.

The establishment of these containers marks a significant step forward in the identification process. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining a sustained pace so that each citizen can quickly receive their card.

The effort is significant, with an essentially electronic approach which requires a stable electrical supply. Despite technical constraints, the objective is clear: to issue identity cards within a reasonable time, without exceeding two months.

This national identification project, initiated in Kinshasa, will extend to the entire country, thus making it possible to list all citizens. A historic approach in a country where the identity card has been expected for 40 years.

The authorities’ commitment to modernizing the identification system demonstrates a desire to meet the needs of the population. Indeed, the identity card is an essential document for every citizen, guaranteeing their identity and their rights.

In conclusion, this progress in the field of national identification in the DRC opens new perspectives for the country and its inhabitants. The issuance of identity cards constitutes a major step towards the modernization of administrative services, thus offering citizens reliable and secure identification.
