KIA Seltos: A Major Renewal with Insistent Changes

The KIA Seltos has undergone a substantial redesign to maintain its competitiveness in the South African SUV market. With a refreshed front headlight design, repositioned fog lights, and an updated interpretation of KIA’s iconic “tiger nose” grille, the Seltos sports a new look. The most significant changes, however, are evident at the rear and within the cabin.

Inspired by the award-winning KIA EV9, the rear of the Seltos has been completely revamped. The center console has also been updated to align with the brand’s current range, providing a more stylish and feature-rich interior. The model is available in various trim levels, each offering a range of features.

The LX model, positioned as the entry-level variant, surprises with its comprehensive equipment offerings at a slightly reduced price compared to its predecessor. The Seltos range caters to a diverse set of buyers, ensuring there is a suitable SUV for everyone.

Having experienced both the entry-level LX and top-of-the-line GT-Line models during a 300 km journey, the ride quality was impressive. The cabin is well-insulated, the suspension strikes a good balance between firmness and comfort, and the steering is responsive. The powertrain is the primary differentiator between the models.

The GT-Line boasts a new 1.5 T-GDi Kappa engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering engaging performance and smooth acceleration. On the other hand, the LX features a 1.5CRDi engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, emphasizing fuel efficiency.

The LX model’s diesel engine may produce some cabin noise during aggressive acceleration but settles into a quieter state once cruising. The interior space of the Seltos is ample, with generous trunk capacity and satisfactory legroom for both front and rear passengers.

KIA’s revamped Seltos offers a premium driving experience and generous standard equipment across all trim levels. The model’s slightly higher price tag is justified by the added features not commonly found in its competitors. Overall, the KIA Seltos presents a solid choice in the crowded SUV segment, with a diverse range of options to suit different preferences.

For added assurance, the KIA Seltos comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometer warranty, roadside assistance, and prepaid maintenance plan. Prices for the various models are competitive, making the Seltos an attractive proposition for SUV shoppers.
