Head of State Félix Tshisekedi launches an ambitious project to modernize the Kintambo Maternity Hospital in Kinshasa

Exciting news is emerging from Kinshasa, the provincial city, as the dedication of the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, to the modernization of the Kintambo Maternity Hospital takes center stage. With the recent laying of the foundation stone for the renovation works, a significant transformation is underway in the town of Kintambo.

This ambitious project focuses on revamping the hospital’s old buildings dating back to 1952 and constructing a new facility to provide modern and tailored services. Noteworthy in this endeavor is the participation of “Nation Builders” – former delinquents (Kuluna) who have received training through the National Service. Their exemplary dedication showcases a strong desire to contribute actively to the country’s development, under the leadership of Major General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik, the Commander of the National Service.

The Kintambo referral general hospital currently operates with 249 beds out of a potential capacity of 500 beds. Offering pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, medical imaging, laboratory, gynecology services for victims of sexual violence, as well as emergency and resuscitation services, this healthcare institution plays a crucial role in meeting the medical needs of the local population.

The 2013 Hospital Establishment Plan for Kintambo hospital outlines plans to strengthen existing departments and gradually introduce new services to ensure a comprehensive and high-quality healthcare provision.

In essence, the modernization initiative at Kintambo Maternity Hospital signifies a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
