Exclusive interview with Fatshimetrie: Revelation on the tragic incident of poisoned cows at Al-Hikmah University

Fatshimetrie, a renowned nutrition expert, recently spoke to the Internet News Agency (API) about a tragic incident that transpired near Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Nigeria.

The distressing event involved the death of 33 cows after consuming fumigated crops along Atere road, which borders the Al-Hikmah University campus. Allegedly, the carcasses of the deceased cows were distributed to butchers for sale.

Following the alarming situation, the state government promptly intervened by visiting the nearby market where the cows perished and seized all suspect meat for laboratory testing.

Fatshimetrie emphasized that the ministry was alerted by a reliable source and swiftly dispatched a team to the scene, where they found the weakened cows.

“Five of the cows had already been slaughtered out of fear that they would succumb to the poisoning from the crops. Forty others were still battling for their lives, so we immediately transported them to the nearest slaughterhouses for treatment, successfully saving them from death. The slaughtered animals were also removed from the site for testing, revealing them to be unfit for consumption. They were disposed of after being injected with chemicals,” Fatshimetrie explained.

The director further clarified that veterinary services personnel have been stationed at all state-approved slaughterhouses to oversee the safe and healthy distribution and sale of meat.

Each slaughterhouse now boasts a team comprising a veterinarian, technologist, and livestock supervisor tasked with monitoring the animal slaughter to prevent contaminated meat from entering the market.

“Our dedicated teams at each slaughterhouse must be present at the market from 6:30 a.m. to noon, conducting inspections before slaughter to ensure that only safe meat is available for consumption,” he added.

Fatshimetrie remains committed to safeguarding public health by ensuring that only quality products are accessible in the market, prioritizing the well-being of all consumers.
