Democratic progress in the DRC: towards a more representative final office

Home Politics Democratic progress in the DRC: towards a more representative final office

In a recent political development in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eliezer Ntambwe Mposhi, the national deputy and president of the ACR, has brought up the possibility of establishing a timetable for the election of the final office of the National Assembly by the end of the current week. He mentioned that the previous blockage has been resolved after primaries held within the Sacred Union for selecting a candidate for the position. Ntambwe also proposed conducting primaries within the concerned political parties or groups to allocate positions in the final office.

He emphasized the significance of democracy by asserting that the political influence of different groups should be a key factor in distributing positions within the final office. Ntambwe stressed the importance of granting each deserving group a position to ensure fair and democratic representation.

Additionally, Ntambwe indicated that the first vice-president position will be assigned to the UDPS, and Secretary General Augustin Kabuya will soon disclose the selected candidate for this role.

This positive outlook toward resolving political hurdles and advancing transparent and democratic elections within the National Assembly is encouraging. It reflects a shift towards more pluralistic and inclusive governance, where the political strength of various factions is considered.

In conclusion, the potential establishment of a timetable for the election of the final office of the National Assembly marks a significant stride towards strengthening democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The unfolding of this process and its implications for the country’s future governance will be crucial to monitor.
