An unequivocal verdict: The harrowing story of a rape of a minor on Children’s Day

In a recent ruling by Justice Rahman Oshodi from a sexual offenses and domestic violence court in Ikeja, a shocking rape case was unveiled. The accused was found guilty of committing the crime on Children’s Day 2021. Using his position of authority and familiarity, he lured the victim into his bedroom to subject her to sexual violence.

The judge’s decision, announced on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, underlined that the prosecution effectively proved the rape of a minor against the accused Anyanwu. Supported by the victim’s testimonies, medical reports, and those of her guardian, the case was solid.

Refuting the testimonies of two police officers, the judge criticized their biased support towards the defense, damaging their credibility. He also dismissed the accused’s alibi and extortion allegations as baseless.

The court concluded that the accused exploited the trust of a 13-year-old girl residing in his neighborhood. The lasting psychological impact on the victim suggests a profound pain that may endure for life.

The judge condemned the accused’s lack of integrity and remorse throughout the legal proceedings. His initial denial and attempts to downplay the seriousness of his actions have been criticized. The judge also highlighted the accused’s endeavors to manipulate the police and conceal the crime as grave offenses that cannot be overlooked.

This ruling underscores the imperative for a robust response to sexual offenses, highlighting the necessity of supporting victims and ensuring accountability for offenders. It emphasizes the impartial and fair delivery of justice to safeguard the most vulnerable members of society.
