The fight for parity in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a crucial issue for gender equality

High-level lobbying for gender parity in the Democratic Republic of Congo is gaining momentum, sparking widespread interest and mobilization around the critical issue of gender equality. A dedicated and representative delegation engaged in consultations on April 20 to advocate for the inclusion of women in government and the advancement of women in positions of power.

Chantal Yelu Mulop, the spokesperson for this movement, emphasized the importance of women’s representation in government, highlighting that gender parity is not just a commendable objective but a fundamental right that must be upheld. The delegation’s plea is rooted in the undeniable reality that Congolese women continue to be marginalized in decision-making bodies and face challenges in attaining leadership roles.

The high-level lobbying efforts in the DRC, with the support of 80% of Congolese women and an international network of over a million members, are crucial in the fight for peace, security, and the empowerment of women.
