Respect for the law and fight against corruption: EFCC will not tolerate any obstruction

The article stresses the importance of upholding the law and not obstructing the work of EFCC agents, especially in a climate where corruption is pervasive and influential figures often try to escape justice. The recent caution from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale underscores the gravity of impeding EFCC officers in carrying out their lawful duties, which can result in a minimum prison sentence of five years under the EFCC Establishment Act.

The warning comes in light of reports suggesting that former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, was allegedly forcefully taken from his residence by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, while the EFCC sought to arrest him for purported money laundering activities amounting to N80.2 billion.

It is unacceptable for individuals or groups under investigation to hinder the course of justice by using thugs to disrupt EFCC’s legitimate operations. Despite facing provocations, EFCC personnel exhibited remarkable restraint to prevent public disorder, demonstrating a commitment to upholding the rule of law rather than displaying weakness.

Respecting institutions tasked with combating corruption and safeguarding the nation’s interests is paramount. Interference with EFCC’s activities not only undermines the fight against financial crimes but also jeopardizes democracy and the rule of law.

In conclusion, compliance with the law and backing anti-corruption agencies is essential for promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance. Only through constructive cooperation between authorities and society can a fair and prosperous future be secured for all Nigerians.
