Fatshimetrie, April 17, 2024 – During a recent judicial ceremony at the Goma military courthouse, Colonel Magistrate Kabeya-Hanu-Ben, the first president of the military court of North Kivu, issued a strong warning regarding the concerning issue of soldiers roaming the city.

In his address, Colonel Magistrate Kabeya emphasized the importance of discipline and adherence to laws among the soldiers under his jurisdiction. He sternly warned that any soldier found wandering with weapons and in military attire, without proper mission orders, will face severe penalties under military justice.

The escalation of violence, including killings, robberies, and kidnappings, in Goma and neighboring regions like Nyiragongo, has sparked fear among the locals. The population has witnessed a sudden spike in tragic incidents, with approximately ten lives lost in just one week in the city of Goma.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, military justice is determined to crack down on undisciplined soldiers contributing to the unrest. The primary objective is to safeguard the population and restore a sense of security and peace in the region.

Colonel Magistrate Kabeya stressed the significance of maintaining discipline and following procedures within the armed forces. By ensuring that military personnel lead by example, the military justice system aims to protect civilians and foster a secure environment for all residents of North Kivu.
