Resolution in Progress: Phyna Unawarded Awards Case Shakes Nigeria Media Industry

In recent developments concerning Phyna’s unresolved award controversy, Fatshimetrie, led by its esteemed editor-in-chief, delved into the intricacies of addressing the issue. Phyna, supported by her legal counsel Olawale Amousa and Michael Obinna Nwabufo, the Acting President of the Content Creators, Skit Makers and Influencers Union of Nigeria (PCCSIGN), undertook a visit to the MultiChoice office on April 18, 2024, to settle the ongoing dispute surrounding the award ceremony.

The matter arose after Phyna took to Instagram two weeks prior, expressing her disappointment for not receiving certain prizes for winning the show back in 2022. In her statement, she emphasized the importance of receiving her outstanding rewards, including 1BTC, valued at over ₦90 million, and a trip for two individuals which she deemed significant.

PCCSIGN intervened by issuing a formal letter to the organizers, demanding the fulfillment of Phyna’s prizes, including 1BTC valued at $70,052.00 from Quidax Global, a year’s supply of Pepsi products from Seven-Up Bottling Company, a trip for two to Dubai from Travelbeta, and an annual supply of soap products from Evans Industries (Unik Soap).

In a recent statement released by PCCSIGN on Thursday, they disclosed that agreements with Pepsi and Unik Soap will be honored on Friday, April 19, 2024. However, Travelbeta’s and Quidax Global’s proposals were rejected by the parties involved.

The statement mentioned that Phyna was offered a trip for two to either Morocco or Kenya by Travelbeta, which was refused as Phyna had initially been offered the Maldives or Jamaica. Additionally, the proposal of 1BTC was adjusted to reflect the 2022 Naira equivalent of N13 million; however, this offer was declined by PCCSIGN and Phyna’s legal representatives due to concerns regarding potential repercussions stemming from MultiChoice’s negligence.

The resolution of this complex situation is still pending as Phyna and the concerned parties strive to reach a mutually agreeable settlement. The unfolding events continue to draw interest and attention from both the media community and television viewers in Nigeria.
