The recent Russian missile attack on the town of Chernihiv in Ukraine resulted in a devastating toll, with over 70 individuals killed or injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed that this tragic incident could have been prevented if Ukraine had stronger air defenses in place.

One of the victims, 25-year-old police lieutenant Alina Mykolayets, tragically lost her life to shrapnel injuries. She was at home on sick leave when the Russian bombardment occurred, according to Chernihiv authorities.
Zelensky reiterated his previous warnings about the inadequate air defense systems in Ukraine, emphasizing that this tragedy could have been averted with better global support and determination to counter Russian aggression. The President highlighted the need for stronger partnerships to ensure Ukraine’s defense against such attacks.
Following the recent airstrike that targeted the largest power plant in the Kyiv region, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine had depleted its missile resources in countering the assault. In response to the escalating threats, Zelensky signed a crucial law reforming Ukraine’s mobilization rules, requiring men aged 18 to 60 to register with the military and carry their documents at all times. However, the law did not address the demobilization of soldiers who had been actively engaged in combat for extended periods.
