An EFCC raid on the home of ex-governor Yahaya Bello: Tensions and Conflicts in Sight

Fatshimetrie, an online magazine dedicated to exploring national and international news, recently covered a thrilling event involving Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello. During the latter’s visit, security agents and young demonstrators accompanied him, creating a scene charged with emotion and tension. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to information obtained by Fatshimetrie, armed law enforcement agencies, comprising members of various agencies such as the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC), the police, the Department of State Security, the Security Unit fight against terrorism and a private security team belonging to Yahaya Bello were present. The EFCC operations began with a raid on Bello’s house at Wuse Zone 4 in Abuja early on Wednesday morning.

Photographs taken at the scene showed armed EFCC operatives surrounding the ex-governor’s residence on Benghazi Street in Wuse Zone 4. At present, the reasons for the siege at Bello remain to be fully confirmed.

According to our sources, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the situation. Meanwhile, in March 2024, the EFCC filed a case against Yahaya Bello, his nephew Ali, Dauda Sulaiman and Abdulsalam Hudu at the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of money laundering amounting to N84 billion.

Reacting to the EFCC raid, the media office of the former governor issued a statement condemning the actions of the Commission and calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and advise the EFCC accordingly. The statement confirmed that the presence of the EFCC at Bello’s house was in contravention of an injunction by the Lokoja High Court issued on February 9, 2024.

Fatshimetrie continues to closely monitor this ongoing matter and is committed to providing objective and relevant updates to its readers.
