In the heart of Aba township, Chief Uche Wogu, Acting Chairman of Aba South Zone, led an enforcement team in launching a drive from Bata Junction to the main park of Aba. This initiative, following two weeks of awareness raising, aims to eradicate incorrect methods of law enforcement in the region.
During a press conference held as part of the operation, Chief Wogu emphasized that the ASHTF will ensure the elimination of improper law enforcement practices in the system, stating that the city is undergoing a significant mental reorientation. He highlighted past reckless behaviors within the monitoring team, underlining that they now uphold the rule of law.
Chief Wogu highlighted instances of people causing accidents by jumping into vehicles, which prompted the establishment of the ASHTF in six zones, two in Umuahia and four in Aba, each equipped with mobile courts. The initiative also involves four mobile courts in Aba that will pronounce sentences in the event of an offense.
Each infraction will result in a fine, with all cash payments for infractions directed to a single treasury account. Prince Emmanuel Ahumibe, Coordinator of ASHTF, Aba Zone-B, assured residents of a non-harassment policy, emphasizing an empathetic approach focused on awareness and civil enforcement of rules.
