The fight against malaria in Maniema has received a boost with the provincial coordination of the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP) calling for increased awareness of the disease through media engagement. This call to action was made during a briefing in Kindu to commemorate World Malaria Day on April 25.

Dr. Amina Olimba, from PNLP, emphasized the significance of involving media professionals in educating the public about malaria. The media’s ability to disseminate information through various channels plays a vital role in effectively raising awareness among the population.

Journalists present at the event expressed their support for this initiative, recognizing the positive impact of their involvement in spreading awareness about the risks associated with malaria. Gentil Muyombo of Mali radio and Cleophas Bila of KFM radio pledged to leverage their platforms to educate communities about malaria prevention and treatment, acknowledging the disease’s prevalence in health facilities in the region.

The theme of Maniema Malaria Day, “Health Equity, Gender Equality, and Human Rights,” underscored the importance of not only addressing malaria but also advocating for inclusive public health policies that respect individuals’ fundamental rights.

The active participation of the media in raising awareness against malaria in Maniema reflects a collective commitment to combat this disease effectively. Through dedicated communication efforts, communities can be informed about best practices for prevention and treatment, ultimately contributing to the reduction of malaria cases.
