Political blockage in the DRC: The challenges of paralyzed institutions

Blockage of political institutions in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo raises serious concerns, with the persistent blockage of the country’s institutions. The parliamentary opposition points the finger at President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, accusing him of delaying the establishment of leaders of political institutions. The formation of the final office of the National Assembly, essential for the proper functioning of the institutions, is at the heart of the tensions caused by power struggles within the Sacred Union.

Christian Mwando, president of the “Together and Allies” parliamentary group, deplores the consequences of this blockage on the entire country, stressing that the paralysis of institutions hinders the smooth running of political and socio-economic affairs. The political negotiations for the appointment of facilitators prove to be the main obstacle to overcome.

Seeking to justify this delay, the deputy Guy Mafuta of the Sacred Union recognizes the existence of an internal disagreement, while the establishment of institutions remains an imperative to ensure a stable political transition. The need for rapid action to fill these key positions is urgent, in order to avoid an institutional vacuum detrimental to the stability of the country.

The resigning government ensures the management of the country in current affairs, while many institutions are waiting for new leaders. Key positions such as that of Prime Minister and members of the Constitutional Court remain vacant, compromising the smooth running of public affairs.

Faced with the urgency of the situation, the Congolese population is expressing its discontent. The multiple security and socio-economic challenges facing the country require effective governance, but this is hampered by political rivalries and the vacancy of key institutional positions.

The delay in the establishment of political institutions constitutes a real obstacle to the proper functioning of the State, perpetuating a climate of uncertainty and political chaos. To break this impasse, it is imperative that political actors manage to overcome their differences and find consensual solutions to ensure the continuity of institutions and enable a peaceful political transition.

The Democratic Republic of Congo needs strong governance and committed leaders to face its current challenges and build a better future for all its citizens. It is urgent that political leaders put aside their partisan interests and act in the best interests of the nation to get the country out of this political impasse which is compromising its development and stability.
