New political era in the DRC: Judith Suminwa, a Prime Minister bringing hope

The appointment of Judith Suminwa as Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo has sparked positive reactions within civil society, the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) as well as the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD).

Upon the announcement of her appointment, Faida Mwangilwa, representative of civil society, expressed her gratitude to President Tshisekedi for having responded favorably to the expectations of Congolese women. She underlined the importance of different management on the part of the Prime Minister, highlighting themes such as the security of the population, the restoration of state authority and the fight against corruption.

On the side of the UDPS, Fabien Mutomb welcomed the appointment of Judith Suminwa, stressing that it was time for the party to realize its social project centered on the slogan “the People first”. He also highlighted the Prime Minister’s potential to fight corruption, poverty and promote the country’s development.

Finally, the PPRD, through the voice of Ferdinand Kambere, welcomed the appointment of Judith Suminwa while emphasizing the importance of putting an end to “recreation” and focusing on the well-being and security of the population. He also spoke of the need for the UDPS to have a master plan to end the conflicts in the east of the country.

This appointment marks a major turning point in Congolese politics, with a woman at the head of government, capable of bringing significant change and meeting the expectations of the population. Judith Suminwa will face many challenges, but she benefits from the support of different political actors and civil society, ready to work together for a better future for the DRC.
