Meeting between Mohammed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and Felix Tshisekedi

The recent meeting between the President of the Republic of Mauritania and current President of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, was an opportunity to discuss numerous issues of regional and international importance.

Among the subjects discussed, the commitment of the presidency of the African Union to the restoration of peace in the DRC was at the heart of the discussions. The worrying situation in the North Kivu region, where the DRC is facing aggression from the Rwandan rebel group M23, has attracted particular attention.

In this context, the AU Security and Peace Council expressed its willingness to strengthen military efforts in support of the Southern African Development Community Mission (SAMIDRC) to pacify the Eastern DRC . This decision illustrates the African Union’s commitment to stability and security in the region.

Felix Tshisekedi’s working visit to Mauritania is therefore of strategic importance, as the international community strives to provide concrete responses to the security challenges facing the DRC. The discussions between the two heads of state made it possible to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between African countries in the face of regional and continental issues.

This meeting marks an important step in the efforts deployed to promote peace and stability in Africa, and testifies to the determination of African leaders to meet the challenges of security and development on the continent.
