“Strengthening collaboration between customary authorities and politicians: the confirmed mandates of customary leaders in Kasai-Central”

The provisional office of the Kasai-Central Provincial Assembly recently confirmed the mandates of three traditional chiefs during a meeting held on February 26, 2024. Jeannot Kabenabasue Mbulungu for Kananga, Crispin Pungu for Luiza, and Zacharie Tshipamba Muamba for Dibaya were co-opted after a careful analysis of their files by a joint committee.

During this plenary session, David Ntumba Mbowa was also validated as replacement for Martin Ntenda, who preferred to sit in the National Assembly. Of the 31 provincial deputies from Kasaï-Central, only 23 were present during this meeting which was held at the provincial administrative building.

This decision certainly has a significant impact on local governance and the representation of different entities within the deliberative body of the province. It is essential to recognize the importance of traditional leaders in the management of local affairs and in the preservation of traditions and cultural values within the community.

By validating these mandates, the Kasaï-Central Provincial Assembly continues to play an essential role in promoting cultural diversity and consolidating local democracy. This approach also strengthens the links between traditional authorities and political institutions, thus contributing to the stability and development of the province.

The images of customary chiefs validated by the Kasaï-Central Provincial Assembly in February 2024 illustrate this recognition and underline the importance of collaboration between the different components of society to ensure a prosperous and harmonious future in the region.
