**Discover the highlights of the FIFA Series in Algeria**
The FIFA Series, which took place from March 26, brought together national teams from different confederations for international friendly matches. This unique event brought together 24 teams from different FIFA member associations, offering a great diversity of playing styles and talents on the pitch.
Algerian striker Yacine Brahimi spoke positively about this initiative: “For this first FIFA series, I think it is a big step forward for us Algerians to welcome countries from different continents, thus giving us the opportunity to highlight the African continent, to show what Algerian football is, the infrastructures present here. We are really proud of it. It is also a challenge for us as an Algerian team to play against teams. “South America and South Africa, which we already know, will allow us to compete against a different style of football, so it’s very promising for the future.”
During this competition, four national teams from different confederations competed on Algerian soil. Croatia, ranked 10th in the FIFA rankings, were one of the highest-ranked teams in the series, while Sri Lanka ended up in 204th place out of 210 teams.
The objective of the FIFA Series is to promote the development of national teams who rarely have the opportunity to play outside their home continent. Some teams will even benefit from having their travel expenses covered by FIFA.
Nine African teams participated in this competition, taking place across five countries and three different continents. The next edition of the FIFA Series in March 2026 is expected to include higher-ranked teams, providing even more competitive matchups.
This series of friendly matches was announced during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Its objective is to strengthen the level of play of countries outside the traditional footballing powers of Europe and South America, and to make the World Cups even more competitive.
In short, the FIFA Series in Algeria was a real success, offering spectators intense and varied encounters, while opening new perspectives for international football. A great showcase for the diversity and dynamism of this exciting sport.
