Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry had a telephone conversation with Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Micheál Martin to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip. The two ministers discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire and end the difficult humanitarian conditions in the enclave.
They also discussed the contacts established with different regional and international parties to end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, they addressed the United Nations Security Council’s decision to establish a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan in Gaza.
The conversation also focused on international efforts to implement the Security Council decision and achieve a ceasefire and an end to the war in the enclave. Sameh Shoukry briefed the Irish official on Egypt’s efforts to facilitate mediation between Hamas and Israel.
For his part, the Irish official shared the results of his contacts with several European countries regarding the recognition of the Palestinian state. He stressed that the only solution to achieving peace and security in the Middle East was to implement the two-state solution and build an independent Palestinian state.
