The office of the spouse of the Head of State is soon organizing an event of capital importance in Kinshasa: the national forum of women leaders to accelerate progress in favor of maternal health and the rights of women and girls in the DRC. This initiative by the first lady, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, is a unique opportunity to highlight crucial issues for the country.
Under the inspiring theme “Women are committed to accelerating progress towards the reduction of preventable maternal and neonatal deaths for the sustainable and equitable development of the DRC”, this event aims to stimulate political dialogue, raise community awareness and mobilize the actors concerned. The objective is clear: to advance the cause of maternal and neonatal health, gender equality and women’s empowerment in the DRC.
By setting up initiatives such as an activity village called “BOMOTO YA MUASI” and launching a call to action from women leaders and other stakeholders, this forum aims to bring about concrete and lasting changes. It is part of the celebrations of International Women’s Day 2024 and global commitments to gender equality.
Beyond speeches and declarations, tangible actions will be discussed to achieve universal health coverage and make commitments to maternal health effective. The ambitious goal of reducing the maternal mortality rate to less than 140/100,000 live births by 2030 will require sustained efforts and general mobilization.
This national forum of women leaders in the DRC is part of a global dynamic aimed at promoting gender equality in Africa. The “We are all equal” campaign, launched by the continent’s first ladies, demonstrates the crucial importance of this cause for sustainable development and equity.
In short, this event promises to be a platform for sharing, exchange and action to advance maternal health, women’s rights and gender equality in the DRC. It represents a valuable opportunity to make significant progress towards the well-being and empowerment of women and girls in the country.
