Students of the Official University of Bukavu (UOB) recently participated in a seminar aimed at helping them develop their skills in writing CVs and cover letters professionally. Organized by the NGO Bukavu for Bukavu (BforB) in collaboration with the UOB CIS Student Research Circle, this event aimed to provide students with the necessary tools to stand out in the job market.
At the heart of this training, the speakers highlighted the importance of maintaining your professional image through digital tools such as LinkedIn and Canva. They encouraged young people to promote their skills and prepare for job interviews, even if they have not yet gained professional experience.
Irenge Baganda Ibag-Negro, one of the speakers, stressed the importance for students to acquire skills from their academic career: “It is essential to know how to write a cover letter and behave during a job interview. Students must learn to promote their skills to stand out in the job market.
Some students have shared their struggles with crafting compelling resumes and cover letters after college. Joseph Lubunga, student in organizational communications at UOB, stressed the importance of training young people from their academic training to successfully transition to the professional world.
This seminar allowed students to familiarize themselves with good practices in job search and to understand the importance of highlighting their skills on the job market. By raising their awareness from their university career, this event effectively prepares them for their future professional career.
