Putin: Hitler’s heir or defender of Russia?

Recent news has been marked by the anniversary of the annexation of Crimea by Russia, celebrated by Vladimir Putin during a rally in Moscow. However, official figures announcing massive 88% support for Putin raise legitimate doubts about the legitimacy of these results.

This situation is reminiscent of the questionable methods used by past dictators, such as Adolf Hitler during the 1934 referendum in Germany. Accusations of fraud, intimidation and manipulation surround these ballots, calling into question the true democracy of these electoral processes.

In Russia, strict control of the media, the marginalization of political opponents and the repression of dissenting voices help to keep Putin in power. The lack of freedom of expression and the repression of independent journalists place Russia among the least free countries in terms of press freedom.

Additionally, Russia’s continued surge in military spending raises concerns about the government’s priorities. While Putin claims to be working to strengthen Russia’s defense, observers point to an aggressive expansionist pattern, with conflicts regularly fought abroad under his leadership.

This evolution towards an authoritarian and military regime in Russia, with nationalist and imperialist tendencies, must be carefully scrutinized by the international community. It is crucial to consider the possible consequences of these policies for regional and global stability, as well as for the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens.
